First stop, McLaren Vale as part of our Wine & Wagyu Day Tour. Discover the art of wine making in the world famous McLaren Vale (located approximately 45 minutes South of Adelaide by road) where you try your hand at creating a beautiful and personalised red wine blend which you bottle and take home with you after your masterclass. Being McLaren Vale locals, we have personally experienced this masterclass and the result of our wine blending efforts and it certainly is something special .... the wine was also sensational shared with friends a few months afterwards with smiles and memories of the experience a focal point of the evening.
Wine Blending Masterclass D'Arenberg Winery, McLaren Vale
D'Arenberg are known for the quirky names of their wines, and their specialism in the vines of the Rhône valley. They also produce many of their wines in a traditional manner, using basket pressing for both reds and whites (the only winery in Australia to do so) and leaving the vast majority of the red wines unfiltered and unfined which can cause the wine to throw a sediment in bottle but leaves the flavour intact.
The majority of their red wines are suitable for ageing as well as for drinking fairly young and even the cheaper wines show very well after a few years in bottle. Perhaps their best known wine is 'The Dead Arm Shiraz', made from fungus-infected shiraz grape vines.
Wine Blending Masterclass, Wine & Wagyu Airtours Itinerary
On completion of your wine blending masterclass you are transferred to the beautiful rural airfield of Aldinga, nestled amongst the vines to meet your pilot and aircraft for your flight down to Millicent in the South East. A light leather interior and a window seat for everyone, this really is the way to travel!
Your window seat is well utilised with the magnificent views of the Fleurieu coastline on departure out of Aldinga. You will see the glistening blue ocean, the rolling hills and the carpet of grape vines below, subject to weather of course. Flight time is approximately 40 minutes.
